ASAM

ASAM is a global not-for-profit organization driving standardization in automotive development, testing, validation and diagnostics. ASAM ‘accelerates engineering for mobility’ (ASAM vision) by providing a platform and bringing experts together to agree on standards, to exchange information, and to allow collaboration in a legal and anti-trust compliant setting.

Value Proposition

ASAM provides open, standardized interfaces, languages, and data models crucial for simulation, testing, and validation of ADAS and automated driving systems.

The ASAM OpenX standards, a set of currently eight specifications, provide a unified ‘language’ for describing simulation environments. Standardized data can be integrated into simulation and validation tools from various providers, thereby facilitating smooth collaboration between manufacturers, tool suppliers, and development partners.

Technology Description

The ASAM OpenX standard suite defines data formats, domain-specific languages, and data models for the description and exchange of driving scenarios, road networks, sensor configurations, and operational design domains (ODDs). Developed in close collaboration with industry stakeholders, the standards are harmonized to work coherently within integrated toolchains. They reduce complexity and enable seamless integration of data and tools into development workflows.

By supporting scenario-based development and ensuring consistent interfaces, the ASAM OpenX standards are facilitating autonomous vehicle development and accelerating its realization.

ASAM is actively committed to integrating ASAM OpenX standards into open-source ecosystems such as the Autoware open-source software stack, by supporting open-source tools, providing reference implementations, and initiating joint projects – all to drive adoption and strengthen community engagement.
