Autoware Foundation and Hong Kong Productivity Council agreed to strengthen partnership

At the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) APAS R&D Centre Showcase on 11 July 2019, the Autoware Foundation and the Hong Kong Productivity Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the agreement to strengthen current partnership and collaboration. The Showcase event, which featured “5G in Smart Mobility”, had local and international experts presenting at technical seminars and R&D results showcasing. The opening ceremony was officiated by Mr. Ivan Lee, Deputy Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Innovation and Technology Bureau; Mr. Eric Pang, Deputy Director (Trading Services) of Electrical and Mechanical Services Department; Mr. Willy Lin, Chairman of HKPC; and Dr. Lawrence Cheung, CEO of APAS R&D Centre of HKPC. Jan Becker, Co-Founder, and CEO of Apex.AI, and Board Director of Autoware Foundation attended the MOU signing ceremony at the Showcase on behalf of Autoware Foundation, and joined the panel on “Autonomous R&D Platform”, discussing how robust drive-by-wire capability, artificial intelligence function can be implemented leveraging 8K HD vision, 3D LiDAR, and 5G technologies.

The autonomous driving is going to transform the automotive industry and cause essential changes in our society in the future. It is also going to lead innovations in AI, IoT and sensor technologies, and promote 5G network infrastructure build. Autoware Foundation and HKPC have common interests in these areas, thus setting up this MOU for forthcoming co-operation. The Autoware Foundation and HKPC agreed to strengthen current partnership and collaboration, as well as to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, expertise and experience for promoting sustainable mobility, environmental friendlier passenger and commercial vehicles, charging facilities, Autonomous Driving (AD), open data access for Intelligent Transport System and traffic management, and communication technology in the trend.

HKPC APAS also signed several MoUs respectively with other 5 organizations on the same day, including China Mobile Hong Kong, European Automotive Council, UISEE, Wah For Development Company Limited and ZTE Corporation. Autoware Foundation has a friendly discussion with those organizations at the event.
