Alternative Embedded Innovation (AEI), an experienced software design house based in Switzerland with a proven track record working with safety-critical industries, has joined the Autoware Foundation.
AEI creates innovative solutions, focusing on ADAS and autonomous vehicles. As a trusted global supplier of software development services, AEI offers seamless integration of ADAS and AMR stacks, along with AI derivatives into hardware, while ensuring compliance with safety and cybersecurity regulations.
As a preferred semiconductor design partner, AEI specializes in the comprehensive integration of ADAS and AMR stacks with AI-driven enhancements on leading hardware platforms, including Arm, AMD, Infineon, TI, NVIDIA, and NXP. Leveraging Autoware software, AEI ensures seamless implementation while meeting stringent safety and cybersecurity regulations. With deep expertise in ISO 26262, AEI enables the development of high-performance, reliable, and secure autonomous solutions tailored for automotive and robotics applications. Partnering with AEI provides access to a team of seasoned automotive professionals, helping companies overcome resource constraints, meet tight deadlines, and maintain focus on core innovations.

AEI has also developed SWART (see image above), a continuous memory profiling and logging tool. SWART enhances the performance, reliability, and safety of embedded systems. It provides a big data picture during the project lifecycle and is an excellent aid for engineer onboarding, knowledge transfer, SPICE assessment, reengineering, and content internal and external value communication.
AEI initially started their collaboration with the Autoware community as an individual contributor, specifically at Autoware’s Privately Owned Vehicle (PoV) working group. The discussions on how to translate AI foundation models into embedded solutions triggered AEI’s formal membership process, and this activity will be one of the cornerstones of AEI’s contributions to the Autoware software and the Autoware community.
Additionally, AEI plans to work with the Open AD Kit working group to create an Open AD Kit blueprint, using their SWART product to build a holistic visualizer for the Open AD Kit software stack, which will be ideal to leverage in demo activities to overlay the entire stack in a visually traceable format.
The AEI team plans to join the Privately Owned Vehicles, Open AD Kit, and Safety Assurance working groups and audit other relevant working groups as the development activities intersect with their activities.
We are delighted to welcome Alternative Embedded Innovation to the Autoware Foundation and look forward to collaborating on the productization of the Autoware software. 🚀
