The Autoware Foundation held an exceptional meetup hosted by Whale Dynamic in their headquarters located in Shenzhen on June 14, 2024.
Here’s the full recap of the presentations were given an the Autoware China Meetup, which was filled with technical and practical knowledge sharing but not compromising on networking.
As the chairperson of the meetup event, Gordon Pan who is the head of Greater China region of TIER IV gave an opening remark to all the audience. He welcomed all the attendees, especially the new Autoware Foundation members as well as CoE members. He also expressed his willing to look forward to having more members from China joining the Autoware Foundation to expand the open source community.
Daisuke Tanaka, the head of operations team of the Autoware Foundation, gave a review of Autoware Foundation’s latest updates, including transformation in organization and processes, a few key initiatives as well as expansion of footprint by establishing local chapters.
Ryohsuke Mitsudome from Technical Steering Committee did a review of the latest updates from TSC. He explained the activities from each working group, migration to the new Core/Universe architecture, high level ODD roadmap and some achievements. He also shared with the audience future plans about Autoware Labs, Safety Assurance WG and goal in 2025.
Some of the members of Autoware Foundation were invited to be on stage to give a speech.
David Chang, CEO of Whale Dynamic, explained the vision of company and how their core technologies such as MSF localization, proprietary MSF perception, early-stage fusion hardware and passenger vehicle P&C can help to empower a more abundant Autoware ecosystem.
Mingfei Bao from Arm introduced the SOAFEE initiative which offers a cloud-native architecture enhanced for mixed-criticality automotive applications and enables the functional safety and real-time capabilities required for autonomous workloads. He also mentioned the collaboration between Arm and the Autoware Foundation via Autoware’s Open AD Kit which is the first SOAFEE blueprint.
Dr. Kong Hui, representing Professor Cheng-Zhong Xu from the University of Macau who is one of the Autoware CoE directors, has shared their research project about robotic exploration and mapping without human intervention.
Dr. Qing Xu from School of Vehicle and Mobility of Tsinghua University has recently joined as an Autoware Foundation CoE member. He has shared the research theme about cloud-supported mixed traffic formation control.
Masaki Fujii from Kudan has introduced their SLAM technologies and how they can be integrated to Autoware. Under Autoware’s architecture, Kudan SLAM covers Localization and Map stacks (ROS2 based).
Jun Su, CTO of MiiVii Tech, introduced their company and unique advantages as a leading edge computing solution provider and how they plan to contribute to Autoware open-source ecosystem by innovating the edge.
Finally, Yuxi Pan from Synkrotron introduced their company who is specializing in developing high quality simulation software and toolchains aimed at accelerating the development and commercialization of autonomous driving technologies. As a member of the CARLA Autonomous Driving Consortium, Synkrotron has also been working closely with the CARLA team to connect the CARLA simulator with Autoware Universe.
